It Happened Here

Seventeen and one-half acres of the original 55 owned by Hiram Edson are part of this historic farm. Although Edson’s original barn no longer stands, a barn belonging to Hiram’s father, Luther Edson, has been moved here and restored.

This site is sometimes referred to as “the theological birthplace of the Seventh-day Adventist church.” “It is here that the doctrines of the Sabbath and the Sanctuary came together in the 1840s, along with other important pillars of the SDA Church: Salvation, Second Coming, State of the Dead, and the Spirit of Prophecy.

At the welcome center you can view a short documentary on the life of Hiram Edson and see artifacts from his time period. Displayed is a 1854 Washington Hand Press like the original hand press on which the early Advent believers published the Advent Review and Sabbath Herald in nearby Rochester, New York.

Check out our Gift Shoppe, items are available for all ages. Churches may request to have a communion service as part of the tour. Bring your lunch and use our picnic tables. There is plenty of room for buses to park. Restrooms are open for your convenience.
